FieldMarking is our incarnation of semantic ecoblogging. We are testing out various technologies that will take advantage of community-oriented platforms to produce useful data streams for ecologists. This is an effort of the Spire project, by members of the eBiquity research group.

You will see entries marked with a burrowing owl icon like this: owl_icon.png

If you click on the owl, you’ll see the RDF-formatted data for that blog post. This machine-readable data is being indexed by Swoogle, so that it is globally available on the Semantic Web. For now, we create the RDF by filling out a form generated by Andrey Parafynyk’s FireFox plug-in, SPOTter. We have more work to do to make this semanticizing more user-friendly. Meanwhile you can query and view these observations on the SPOTter map.
